| September 24, 2015 Multiple Jobholding Has Become Less Common in the U.S. Over the Past Two DecadesThe proportion of multiple jobholders among all employed U.S. workers has declined steadily since a high of 6.8% in 1995 and was at 5.0% by the end of 2013, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The reasons are unclear – the trend, which holds regardless of occupation or industry, can't be attributed to factors such as occupational shifts. Certain occupations seem well-suited to second jobs, perhaps because of convenient work schedules: Some 13% of elementary-, middle-, and secondary-school teachers hold multiple jobs, the Bureau reports. |
