August 27, 2015 U.S. State Governments Can Shrink by Spending More on ITOne way for U.S. state governments to decrease their spending is to put more funds into information technology: On average, a $1 increase in the IT budget of a state's chief information officer is associated with a reduction of as much as $3.49 in that state government's overall expenses, says a team led by Min-Seok Pang of Temple University. Between 1970 and 2011, the ratio of state government expenditures to U.S. GDP doubled, from 5% to 10%, as demand for services rose. |
