May 4, 2015 Children's Data Is Prized by Identity ThievesChildren are often very attractive targets for identity theft, for two reasons: They don't check their credit reports or credit-card bills as adults do, and their credit reports are clean, a plus for thieves wanting to start their financial lives over again, says The New York Times. A recent study of 40,000 children whose personal information was compromised by a data breach found that 10.2% of their Social Security numbers appeared to have been in use by others, in most cases prior to the breach, the Times says. |
