Families Swell Ranks of Homeless in New York
An average of 21,000 children per night were in New York City's shelters for the homeless in January—about 1% of the city's youth, according to the Wall Street Journal. The figure represents a 22% increase in the number of young people in shelters over the past year. New York City has seen one of the steepest increases in homeless families in the nation.
