December 18, 2014 The Vinyl-Record Industry Struggles with Surge in DemandVinyl records are undergoing a resurgence, with sales up 49% this year, but the industry is so moribund that the machines for making vinyl discs haven't been manufactured in decades, and the few companies still pressing records face breakdowns and supply problems, says the Wall Street Journal. Companies show little interest in investing in an industry that generates just 2% of U.S. music sales. The top-selling vinyl record in 2014 was Jack White's Lazaretto, which sold 75,700 copies. |
