December 16, 2015 Change How Other People See You at WorkDo you ever feel that someone has the wrong impression of you at work? It can be frustrating when others don’t see us as we intend, but it is possible to change your reputation. Start by confronting the issue head-on. Accept that a colleague feels a certain way about you, apologize if you’ve contributed to their negative opinion, then start helping them see your true self. Finding some common ground with the person — similar interests, for example — can help them see you more positively. Look for opportunities to work with the person so that you have more chances to get to know each other. And put in more effort than you think you need to. Recasting yourself in a better light might require you to play dramatically against type. Finally, have patience: Your colleague’s perception of you won’t change overnight.
