Do Leaders Assume That Female Managers Are Less Creative?


In a study, supervisors tended to judge female executives as less innovative than their male counterparts, even though the executives’ direct reports made no such distinction and considered the women and men similarly innovative, says a team led by Devon Proudfoot of Duke University. Creative thinking is often associated with masculine qualities, and people in positions of high power are more likely to rely on stereotypes when forming judgments about others, the researchers say.
