August 19, 2014 Pity the Poor Local Government Worker35% of insect-related injuries to U.S. workers affect state and local government employees, even though those workers constitute just 14% of the nation's workforce, according to a Labor Department tally reported in the Wall Street Journal. New Mexico leads the nation in insect injuries of workers, with 8.3 per 100,000 people living in the state in 2010, well ahead of No. 2 Georgia, which has 6.3. The state of Texas leads in insect deaths, with bees the main culprits.
