June 13, 2018 Make It Easier for Your Boss to Give You Negative FeedbackIt's hard to improve your skills when you don't know what to work on. If your boss isn't forthcoming with constructive feedback, try to make it easier for them. Start by giving yourself negative feedback, which will demonstrate that you're serious. Tell your boss something like, "I know that I tend to work quickly and sometimes overlook important details. I'd like to get better at that. Do you have any thoughts on how I could do it?" You could also tell your manager that you want to improve in three areas this year and that you'd like their feedback on what the areas should be. Ask, "Would you please help me keep this commitment I've made to myself?" That way, they can think of their feedback as helping you make good on a promise, not as hurting your feelings.
