ABOUT THE EVENT
Ask leaders if their firm values collaboration and you'll get a resounding yes. Ask whether strategies to increase collaboration have been successful, and you'll probably receive a different answer. Having interviewed dozens of leaders about collaboration, Harvard Business School professor Francesca Gino summarized what she has heard: So much hope and effort, so little to show for it. Gino has concluded that leaders think about collaboration too narrowly, as a value to cultivate but not a skill to teach. With the perspective of a behavioral scientist, Gino writes in Harvard Business Review, "What's needed is a psychological approach." In studying successful sustained collaborations across a wide range of industries, Gino has identified six techniques where people can be trained to work together: - Teach people to listen, not talk
- Train people to practice empathy
- Make people more comfortable with feedback
- Teach people to lead AND follow
- Speak with clarity and avoid abstractions
- Train people to have win-win interactions
On January 9, 2020, in a live, interactive Harvard Business Review webinar, Gino will discuss why most efforts to improve collaboration fail and what successful, sustained collaborators do differently. She will expand on each of these six techniques and will provide practical exercises that can be used to improve collaboration immediately. If your firm values collaboration but has struggled to achieve and sustain it, join Francesca Gino and HBR on January 9. |
